Isn't that common knowledge??
I just went searching and there isn't anything, anywhere even suggesting that this is true. Lot's of papers are expressing wish lists and Carter is on many of them. Eklund is garbage 98% of the time, any of us can do what he is doing. Heck we pretty much are anyway!
You don't need real sources... just make them up!

Even than i'd consider the possibility that we were wrong... but seeing as Eklund would never say that we can all revel in the fact that he is, a giant crybaby

A poster on another board I lurk on, a credible poster who has sources and has been right before is saying it's done and we'll hear tomorrow. Bill Meltzer (for those who don't know who he is, he blogs for hockeybuzz and writes for NHL.com among other things) found out this poster's source and remarked "I found out the original source, who is someone who would know." We'll see what goes down tomorrow.

Regarding eklund -
I think people need to stop taking what he writes as gospel. People act like if it's written on his site, then it HAS to come true. He reports what he hears. Just because he writes something doesn't mean it will come true. GM's talk all the time, and if he has a source who hears about a certain deal being discussed, then he'll write about it. It doens't necessarily mean the trade will happen.
That being said, what does bug me is those little e-ratings he puts after the rumors (e-1 - e-5). That's a little pretentious. But c'mon people. It's a rumors site, not a this-trade-will-happen-because-eklund-says-so-and-if-it-doesn't-I'm-going-to-get-mad-and-call-him-a-hack site.

Anyone who believes Eklund deserves any expecations that they had to be crushed, because he is wrong way more than he is right. Just go back through the old threads around the trade deadline, the Forsber saga, etc... and you will easily find how many times he has been wrong.
I still think they will get the deal done, but will never believe anything Eklund writes again until I hear it somewhere more credible.

Jun 12 2008, 06:37 PM
Homer said himself that they were going to keep Carter. That they would match any offer if they had to, I'm not surprised to hear that it may have gotten done. I will be interested to see the contract terms, length and $$, if this comes to pass.

Thanks! And CourierPost is such a reliable source rather than Eklund.
This is the one that sells me:
QUOTE
Rick Curran, the agent for Carter, said Thursday there has been significant progress in recent discussions with the Flyers -- enough to lead him to believe Carter will be a Flyer next season and beyond.
"I am very optimistic this will come to a satisfactory conclusion for both sides," Curran said. "Suffice it to say talks have gone extremely well."
QUOTE
"In our initial conversation, I asked Jeff, "How do you feel?' " Curran said.
"He said, "I love it here.' He's very excited about the future. He knows the club has some cap issues and instructed me to do everything in my power to make it work."

i was listening to eskin last night. i usually don't like to hear what he has to say about hockey, because its always last on his agenda. but when it comes to things like this, his sources are usually credible. he says the length of the deal will most likely be 3-5 years.

I believe that they're at least close (even before the Courier Post article was posted). This is about the time I expected them to reach an agreement and Carter had his house for sale, which leads me to believe he is looking for a bigger one in anticipation of his new contract.

If they can sign them for the amount that was in the paper, that would be awesome. The total would be 56 million, so they would have to shave off a little bit and add a defensemen.

Eskin is the worst when it comes to hockey. I love listening to Glen Macnow but Eskin just trashes the sport constantly and makes fun of it even though it's his job to discuss philadelphia sports with its fans. You're right though that he doesnt usually say things that don't have a solid foundation. I still remember the night he stopped what he was doing and said "i just received a report that the flyers have signed peter forsberg" which caused me to lose control of my car and come within inches of hitting a telephone pole.

Eskin is probably correct. I would expect the deal to be a shorter one if the Courier Post article is correct that his cap hit will be around $3M.

Or he's selling it because he doesn't have any reason to leave near Philadelphia anymore.

Wasn't Carter sharing a house with Potulny (I think?)??? Hence, his trade would mean that Carter gets a new house. A couple million a year contract doesn't hurt, either.

Yes, I believe you are correct. With Potulny gone, Carter needs to find a new roomate or a new place to live. With a big payday coming, it would make sense for him to sell his current place.

I want to get a Richards jersey too, but am waiting for him to get the "C."
