Obviously not a good hit, you need to be a little more aware of the other player's position when you are going at him. But, on the other side, Bergeron needs to stay out of such an unprotected position (bent-over, a couple feet from the boards when you know someone is pursuing you). You leave yourself open to injury when you don't prepare to be hit. I see that more and more from "younger" players (partly due to the "new" rules I would guess).

Let's hope everything turns out OK for Bergeron and he gets back on the ice as soon as possible. He is a great player to watch.

I don't think it was necessary to say that at all. It is possible to be on the computer AND watching the game at the same time.

As for the hit, it was clean. Jones had no intent and its very unfortunate that Bergeron got hurt.

Let me start by saying I hope Bergeron has a full, speedy recovery. Randy Jones didn't intend to hurt him at all.

If Bergeron gets hit by Jones just like he did and gets up right away, there's not even a minor penalty called. There was no initial penalty called and then a few second ran off the clock before the whistle was blown and then he was down on the ice for about 15 minutes and all the sudden it's a 5 minute major penalty. That's what I can't stand. If it's a penalty, then it's a penalty but I hate "after the fact" penalties that are determined based on injury or crowd reaction.

But like I said, I hope he recovers fully.

A suspension is totally unwarranted. I was surprised by the late game misconduct call. Looked like a double roughing call (4 minutes) or boarding.

The NHL seems to go by what the public says.

When they have a meeting to discuss the punishment they turn on ESPN and see what they say the NHL should do.

I greatly respect him for issuing a written statement so quickly. In fact, it was read between the 2nd and 3rd periods.

His statement was sincere and from the heart and I'm glad he issued one so quickly. I don't think I recall any athlete in any sport issue an apology for something like this so fast.

It was an unfortunate and awkward hit. The Flyers and Jones will now have to wait to see how the league decides to handle this. I suspect fines and suspensions will be handed out by Monday.

As for the hit, it was a board and I think the ref gave the correct call in this case. Jones is NOT a dirty player and is one of the least physical defensemen on the Flyers blueline. He was already in the act of laying the hit on Bergeron and couldn't really hold up. Bergeron didn't help himself either by stopping, which made the hit worse than it would have been. If he doesn't stop that hit results in Jones just riding Bergeron out into the boards. I don't think the hit warrants a suspension but it wouldn't surprise me one is issued. I'd say 3 games at most.

A lot of people that are going to call hit dirty will say that you're taught never to hit a player in the numbers, but you're also taught to keep your head on a swivel and to always protect yourself when going into the corners so you don't get hurt.

I agree with you totally, a suspension is unwarranted. I feel terrible to what happen to Bergeron and I hope he has a full recovery as fast as possible, but it was not a that bad of a hit, it was just a bad situation for both players. Bergeron got into a bad defenseless position, and Jones just followed through with a hit. Ya he got hit from behind but there was no intent to injury in that hit. I just hope people don't overreact to this hit because of the injury to Bergeron, but it all ready happen with Jones getting a 5 minute major and a game misconduct, that was a bad call that I think the refs overreacted to the situation. In my opinion there should be no suspension to Jones because there was no intent, Bergeron just got into a bad position.

I just heard that Bergeron suffered a Broken Nose and a Concussion, plus he has full movement through his whole body. So that is good news to hear considering it look real bad on the ice.

Been reading a few other teams MBs and they're saying fine the team and Stevens and such, go ahead, we have all the Comcast money anyway.

Aside from the hit which was unfortunate, this was a great road win for the Flyers, Richards goal was sweet and Lupul has shown he was a great trade for this team.

The Flyers have had a number of suspensions already due to a bunch of dirty hits. There has been injury potential in all of them, and tonights hit was the worst. Any of the three hits could have ended up like this, with these guys going for the head/ This was a clear, deliberate attempt to injure that succeeded, a blatant elbow to the back of the head, smashing Bergeron's head against the boards. If hits like this continue to occur, there may be many more serious injuries. The Flyers coach needs to get control of his players, because if things keep escalating at this rate, we may see another Moore/Bertuzzi incident.



It's fine to be a tough team, to be gritty and physical. It's not fine to try to injure the other teams' players. And the Flyers' players have crossed this line three times too many.

He deserves a twenty game suspension. The Flyers are a tough team, but they are beginning to cross the line from tough to dirty. If things continue on like this and continue to escalate, it will only be a matter of time until we see another Bertuzzi/Moore incident.
