I can definitely agree with you there.

Maybe so but you have to give respect to chelios he is undeniably one of the best d-men of all time

QUOTE (The Realist @ Aug 5 2008, 02:42 PM) *
I wish I could say they played in the AHL last year. Vannannen was in Europe and Eminger played 20 games in the NHL and sat in the press box the remaining 62. Yeoch!

Chelios is an a-hole.

I know the d-men we acquired are no-bodys and I will be amazed if they are even half-way decent , just alot of wasted time in money in my opinion

i thought the european leagues were more competitive than the ahl?

Maybe more competitive but the talent pool is lower and the style of hockey is much diffrent , usally forgein players get alot of penalties in the NHL because of the NHL'S stricter rules than the european leagues

QUOTE (youngdaniel48 @ Aug 5 2008, 03:21 PM) *
i dont think the dmen we got are horrible...at least they can skate unlike hatch modry and smith. and chelios made $1.15 million last season, with that kind of money im sure we could find someone a lot younger and that we could keep for a long time.

True we needed to get rid of Hatcher and Smith , I would of kept modry he was cheap and I liked him . We needed to get some young-gun D-men but the ones we picked up are losers , and we should of never got rid of Alexander Pichard for prospoal , Pichard has great talent and will probaly one day be one of the top d-men in the NHL. We could of got some good experienced d-men from alot of teams that had to cut good players due to salary cap , pittsburg had to get rid of alot of there good d-men so did a ton of other teams , there was good players out there the flyers just didn't take advantage of it.

Exactly...teams had to drop those guys cause of their big salaries, which we couldn't afford, which is why we signed these "no name" guys. And i don't think Eminger is a loser...he was a high draft pick and has a lot of potential, i think with a change of scenery here in Philly he may fill out to be a really good puck moving dman. With timonen and hatcher to groom him i think the trade could end up working out well for us...just like coburn. Coburn wasnt doing well in atlanta and was traded here...got a change of scenery and help from great vets like timonen and hatch and now hes a top 4 guy for us.
As far as picard goes, i don't remember a lot from him, but i dont know if hes gonna be one of the top dmen in the nhl

He meant "cheap" as in a cheap date. You know, a couple glasses of Sutter Home Merlot and he's yours for the night.

How could you like him lol. Hes an old, slow guy who turns the puck over a lot...not to mention he is very injury prone.

I agree with a comment before:
Richards, Next Question
Kristen
not that it really tells us anything... but on Comcast Sportsnet last night John Stevens said the captain will either be Timonen, Gagne, Richards, Hatcher, Knuble, or Briere (narrows it down huh!). Mentioning Richards as a strong candidate of course. He said they should have it figured out by the time training camp starts September 19th

Thats How I see it also..... Timonen Is CAPTAIN--C--

I really want Richards to have the C, but I don't mind having Kimmo as the captain for a couple of years.

I wouldn't mind that either.

One of the guys told me it was gonna be Richards- whether that was something he knew, or just his personal preference.

I guess we'll see next month.

The good news is that poll doesn't mean squat for as who will be chosen.

There's no certainty that Hatcher will ever play a game again as a Flyer. He's also in the last year of his contract. The speculation is that Gagne is fine and will be back for good while Hatcher may be forced onto LTIR. So, from a practical standpoint, it makes less sense to vote for Hatcher. He was a true leader last year and was an interim Captain before but, I am not sure he's the most logical person to name as the team's next captain. There's been too much turnover in that role recently. The Flyers need more stability.

I'd pick Hatcher over Gagne IF I thought Hatcher would make it through a whole season. You can't pick a guy as captain when you know he's going to be in and out of the lineup(Forsberg, anyone?).

I'm on board with the Kimmo crowd. He'll give Richards another year or two of seasoning and a guy who has the experience it takes to be a captain, not to mentioned he's one of the most respected players in the league.

C - Timonen
A - Richards
A - Gagne

I understand that but you can't apply that to the reality of the situation which is very different than the leadership standpoint. If you want to pose the question of "In theory, who would be a better leader?" I think many people would agree with you that Hatcher would, but why give him the C if he may barely going to make it on the ice, if at all?

Hatcher is the best leader on the team but it's all about health for that man wich is so sad.

Timonen or Richards is my choice. Timonen has more exiperence though.

Does nobody else really really really think it's time for Richie? He's already a year too late. Give him the C Stevens!

I was thinking he could be like Yzerman, you know. Start young and keep the C for many many years

Pfft...Gagne hasn't showed me anything that exhibits Captain potential. If you think a player should be captain simpy due to tenure, then yes, he should be considered.
Sami Kaptain-nen
Richards' name was thrown around. But when he was asked about the potential captaincy he said he wasn't ready yet. That's different from when Gagne just said he didn't want it. I would like to see Kimmo with it. His play was stellar last season.

its actually the exact same thing. they both said there were better choices for captains at the time they were asked.

People can't comprehend that. They've convinced themselves that Gagne is not a leader since he made that statement, even though Richards said the same thing.

Oh wow, I didn't realize that. 31 is such a nice number. It's a month. I'll be moving back to school and getting into the swing of things. And before I know it, HOCKEY. You made my day, man. These Phillies blues are hard to kick. And the Kevin Curtisitis is just insult to injury.
