I will be surprised if gagne doesn't have an A on his jersey this season , considering he actually is healthy to play. Also it is true gagne has been with the flyers the longest out of players on the flyers roster , but thats not alot of other great EX-Flyers fault , that is the flyers organize fault . They showed no loyalty to Leclair , Roenick , Recchi , to name 3 but the list goes on for hours. Well just recently we let Umberger go I was like WTF when I heard the news , he was one of our best young talent and was the only reason we got as far in the playoffs last season as we did , I would of cut J. SMITH out of the organization to make cap room for Umberger . Jeff Carter got an extension after that to and I know for a fact Carter gets paid way more than Umberger was getting paid , so we have room to give Carter a raise and an extension but not money or the effort to hang onto Umberger

The flyers are going to end up just like the 2006 flyers again , if they keep getting rid of all their talent , and putting all their time and money into going out and getting teenagers that have never set foot on a NHL Rink or played against the skill level of players that are in the NHL.
I understand your frustration, but the world of the cap is a lot different the NHL of 10 years ago. Smith is gone for one thing. Umberger isn't that young any more. And Carter was more of a priority to sign than him. I'm not sure why you put Umberger before Carter on your priority list, considering we drafted Carter. I know a lot of people loved Umberger for his effort (I'm one of them), but considering our cap situation and the talent that we currently have on the roster and the talent that is waiting to enter the roster, Umberger was a necessary sacrifice. Considering that we only have 6 skaters over 30 [Asham (30), Briere (30), Timonen (33), Metropolit (34), Knuble (36), and Hatcher (36)], and 2 of them are bit-part 4th-liners, 1 of them may barely play this year, and another will probably be traded during the season, I'd say we're going in the right direction as far as getting the most out of our youth. Umberger played well in the playoffs, but don't forget that 21 of his 50 regular season points came against just 3 teams (2 of them non-division). Then he had 2 pts in 7 games against Washington in the playoffs, 9 pts in 5 games against Montreal, then 4 pts in 5 games against Pittsburgh. That's the kind of consistency he shows all the time.
I don't think the whole thing is a lack of loyalty at all. It's business.
