Normally, I think Eklund is a joke, but it would be pretty hard to lie about something like this. Any idea what could be up?

Well we are playing the Coyotes soon... Maybe it's just that simple.

Gaborik or Backstrom? We don't have any defensively responsible forwards that the Wild would want though.
Bernie1
it better be for a ****** goalie.

I think your first statement is right, but someone like Backstrom or Gabs would be sweet. No way in **** Flyers can even afford Gaborik though =\

They could if one of our lead anchor salaries are going that way. Hartnell or Briere? Maybe they talked one of them into waiving their NMC? I wonder if they asked Hartnell about it and that was why he was so pissy. tongue.gif

I don't think the GM would be doing the advanced scouting.

I have to think the Wild will hold onto Backstrom for their playoff run. Gaborik doesn't make sense cap wise and he's not playing anyway.

Derek Morris perhaps?

would absolutely love to get morris, we need some snarl on our blueline....only thing is i believe he is making close to 4 mil this year. dry.gif

Maybe Kim Johnsson? He was great for us until we ridiculously got rid of him. Perhaps?

If he's just there to scout Gretzky's team. For what reason...I don't know. He's not a scout!....Homer is in a position of weakness. He has nothing to offer that anyone would want: except players we won't part with. ie. Gagne, Briere, Richards, Timonen (although Richards cost us the tying goal with a bone-head clearing attempt from behind the net)
He should be doing 1 thing - looking for PLAYERS, then he & Stevens should start looking for another job. Remember, he was thrust into being GM after we dumped Clarkie, but Homer was only suppose to be interim - not permanent.
GET BRIAN BURKE.
Yeah, I guess we didn't need Jonsson (sarcastic)...he's only become a stud in Minnesota since leaving Philly.
Look, there is a system to playing consistent winning hockey.....check out the 1st place teams in all the divisions, they're the predicted teams because they have a clear hockey "identity" or "personality" to their team, ie Boston, Montreal, Buffalo, NYR. Last year it was "forechecking". This year, the Flyers don't have 1 & teams are saying that it's "fun" to play Philly. That's embarrassing.

NO to Brian Burke, he has made a lot of boneheaded moves in Anaheim.

- Trading his 2nd round pick for George Parros
- Giving up Andy Macdonald for the useless Doug Weight.
- Ask any Vancouver Canuck fan, Burke's drafting was horrible when he was in Vancouver. Choosing Nathan Smith over Nicklas Kronwall laugh.gif

If there was a new GM I would want Ken Holland or Jim Nill.

Ooh, wouldnīt that be sweet? To finally have a sweed back in the line up. I thought we had a great defense with Kim Johnsson, Timander and Ragnarsson back in the days (well, 2004 that is) and I never thought Johnsson shouldīve left.

As for a goalie: I still donīt think that the goalie issue is our main concern. A top D-man would be prefarable and I certainly wouldnīt mind getting rid of Hartnell to make room. Heīs a good player but not worth the money.
Dave
Has to be for the back end of the team. No way we'd be able to afford Gaborik. Class player though.

Hartnell would free up a lot of room, and I don't think I'd miss him a terrible amount if we did make a trade involving him anyway.
HardHitt3n
Since holmgren was scouting the coyote/wild game. Im thinking maybe we trade lupul and someone else and a pick for gaborik. I think lupul is making almost 5 mil a yr so if they managed to trim a tad maybe we could get gaborik

i dont wanna get rid of hartnell he loves to battle in the corners for pucks and is successful. Lupul would be the ideal guy to trade
Flyersfan018
And put ourselves way over the cap? It's a bad trade anyway. No way Minny would accept that.
Flyersfan018
Bryzgalov. ph34r.gif
The Rifle27
Yea the wild would laugh at that trade
OrangeBlood
he makes way too much money and is going to demand a huge raise. he is also always injured. no good.
Boogaardfan24
You can take any of our guys, as long as their names aren't Boogaard, Pouliot, Gaborik or Backstrom.

True, but he does have games where he makes you think "Oh, he is playing!".
Dave
We should be using our cap space in a way to obtain a veteran D-man in my opinion.

Has this guy ever played a full season? He's a talented guy and would probably be a bigger star on a more offense-minded club, but he spends half the season on IR every year.
Dj R
this league is messed up if lupul is pulling in near $5 million a season.
FlyersFanTN
Or maybe Homer just went home for some reason and decided to catch a game.
The Rifle27
Lupul should only be making 2.3 right?
CrosbySucks87
Maybe he was scouting Coyote players? Maybe a Shane Doan, Olli Jokinen type player. I know Phoenix has been better, and just got Jokinen, but I think they would trade him if we offered them a good deal.

This season he's making 2.3 but with the extension he'll be making 4.25 as of next season.

As far as Gaborik is concerned he's making in the neighborhood of 6.3 and it's rumored that he wants between 8 and 8.5. Negotiations have stalled and now he's mysteriously suffering from a lower-body injury that's been day-to-day for 11 games.

Do you want a 3-4 veteran or a 5-6-7 veteran?

I really think our top 4 is set:

Timmonen-Coburn
Carle-Sbisa

then a combination of:

Vaananen-Alberts
(Jones - Parent)

for the final 2 (3)

Even now, there's an odd man out.

If we trade or sign a veteran d man, he'd either have to be good enough to crack that top four, which would probably price him out of our cap space without a significant move, or he'd be a 5-7 guy that would have something missing from his game.

I think they're just going to have to be patient and wait for Vaany, Jones, and Parent to come back.

Of course, Holmgren's surprised me before. Watch him find a way to get Jovanovski in here somehow. tongue.gif
CrosbySucks87
I think in a year or two, our defense could be great, like one of the best in the league.

With our top four set now:

Timonen-Coburn
Carle-Sbisa

and then we have Parent, who I think is going to be a top four defensemen in this league, if not a top two. But we'll have him on our third pairing, which in my opinion is great.
Dj R
when is parent coming back?

Agreed. The more I think about it though, I think the Flyers need to help Coburn develop into more of a physical player. I think he has the potential to be like a Pronger (maybe not as good but not as dirty either) and, if Coburn had a rough edge like that, our top pairing would be amazing.

I'm not positive but I think it's the first or second week of January.

Looking at that, you make a very good point actually. I take my original statement back tongue.gif

I'm not really a fan of Alberts to be honest, so personally that would free up just over a $1m cap space and I would like to see Vaananen and Jones paired together when healthy.

Lupul needs to start doing more than. If not I don't see the Flyers willing to pay him close to what Carter makes to be mediocre, and he would be traded.

in the past couple games i have noticed Lupul playing with much more energy, which is probably a product of Steven's demoting him to the fourth line for like a period (he was then moved up when Briere got hurt and Harts got benched). i would agree that i would like to see more production but i saw a stat yesterday that said that Lupul has had 11 different linemates since the beginning of the season, thats crazy!!! with that amount of changes being made i cant blame him for no a lot of production

im not a fan of Alberts either but we need a physical presence until so for now i dont mind him. he actually played well last night in Pittsburgh. but our dmen should be pretty good once Jones comes back, with Parent in the minors in case of injury. i think for now, Homer needs to kinda sit back and let the team gel a bit. i do think that we will sign Shanny soon, but after that it would be nice to see how the team can gel for like 3 weeks without any tweaks being made, we need to be patient

11? Wow. That is an interesting stat.

Who do you feel he works the best with?

I still think we should give Danny Syvret a chance. Comtinues to lead the phantoms in points with 15 in 14 games. Replace ALberts with him.

Question: who or what did we give up for Alberts

I believe we gave up Lukacevic and a 4th round 2009 pick.

They gave up Lukacevic (sp) and a 4th round pick which turns into a 3rd round pick if they re-sign him.

Answer: Ned Lukacevic and a conditional draft selection in 2009.
Not sure what the condition is though. Probably if the Flyers would resign him, then the draft pick would be higher.

As for Syret, let him light it up in the minors. I don't think he would help anything right now. I think our D is good enough, we just need to commit to TEAM defense.

+1. Syvret is good and deserving of a shot in the NHL but bringing him up wouldn't solve any of the team's problems.

+2.

It'll take him time to adjust to the NHL pace and it'll only weigh the team down.

I'd love to have Doan (the new Captain Canada) but he pulls in 4.455 mil. If we sign Shanny, we get much the same for less. Also, I think they probably want to keep their last link to their origin. I hear you still see more Jets than Coyote jerseys in their attendees (I couldn't say crowd).
