With the Flyers playing disorganized, sloppy, passionless hockey, and with good coaches looking for a job, who should be the new Flyers coach, or should John Stevens stay?
Boogaardfan24
FlyersFanTN should be.

He was 100% right when he said that and he got fired for it angry.gif
Probably why Stevens doesn't badmouth the players publicly and still has a job.

Yeah. Who wants a head coach who would actually tell the truth, anyway? We don't need that. rolleyes.gif
United
John Tortorella, he'll light up some passion into these guys.

That would be a good way to mess up the team even more.

+1.

Sure, he'd light a fire under the players but, in the long term, everyone will complain when Richards, Carter, Timonen, et al. are unhappy and want to be traded.

Grrrr. Stevens is mad now. He is showing emotion and benched Hartnell for the 3rd period. Is he showing enough emotion, guys???

Did he smash his hands into the bench and growl, "STEVENS MAD!" because that would be enough emotion for me.
Bernie1
Bill Barber, Tortorella, or Paddock.

Not quite. It was reported that "Stevens refused to light the candles or add sprinkles to the cake after Hartnell's performance."

Still, I have never seen him this mad. He must be a good coach now. Maybe he can go and teach Andy Reid a lesson or two. Because we all know that once a coach is fiery and yells, he is on the right track to success and Stanley Cups.

Please tell me you're joking. Are you at all familiar with what happened the last time he was here? That whole Barber situation was the only time I have ever been legitimately embarrassed to be a fan of this team in my 16 years watching them.

I'll give Stevens credit. He called out Mr. Chicken Salad and told him to get his act together.

Me, ill light a fire under their arses.

Well Stevens is starting to learn how to hold his players accountable. I'm glad he benched Harntell for the remainder of the game. I hope this sends a message to the rest of the team.

If we still struggle, then my vote would be for, Pat Burns or Paddock.

Pat Burns seems like a pretty good choice and, either way, Paddock would be a good upgrade over Berube.

That's what a good coach is supposed to do. Hold players accountable. It's a little to late for him to be doing that. From the sound of Harnell's comments on his benching it seemd like he was unfazed by it. I don't think the players take Stevens seriously. Stevens' style is best suited for the AHL where you need to have more patience with players who are making the transition from Juniors or College. I wouldn't mind seeing Pat Burns behind the bench though.

PAT BURNS....Outstanding disciplinarian & defensive guru. As of May 2008, he accepted an Assistant Coach position with the vaunted Canadian World Team, so his health isn't in question.....BUT there was a reason Barry Melrose had to apologize to Burns for his "Pillsbury Doughboy" gesture behind the bench in '93 PLayoffs Leafs vs Kings

In 2003, after searching the Ancaster, Ont., home of Hells Angels' Donald "Pup" Stockford of the Nomads chapter of Montreal, OPP officer Scott Andrew Mills discovered two notebooks filled with telephone numbers. In each one were Pat Burns' personal numbers including his home, chalet and pager numbers. On June 18, Derrek King, a member of the OPP's organized crime squad which searched the Hamilton home of Hells Angels Nomads member Walter "Nurget" Stadnick on March 28, 2001, was in court. King testified he found in Stadnick's closet a police bulletproof vest as well as a card congratulating him on 18 years with the bikers. Pat Burns' phone numbers were also found in a telephone book in the home.

Stockford and Stadnick face charges of murder, gangsterism and drug trafficking for crimes committed between 1995 and 2001.

Stadnick also faces 13 charges of first-degree murder and an attempted murder charge. Their trials are expected to begin early 2004.

Sun Media has also learned that Criminal Intelligence Service Canada (CISC) has also linked Pat Burns to the bikers. Justice Committee found that an infamous biker.

HE'S CONNECTED FROM HIS GATINEAU COPS DAYS- FOR THOSE THAT DON'T KNOW ABOUT QUEBEC POLICE (QPP) - THEY ARE THE MOST MILITANT, PSEUDO-NAZI COPS IN CANADA.

But Pat would be a great Flyer coach that no one would F&%K with.

I remember last year there was an "Apology to John Stevens Thread" where I believe almost everyone on this board, including me, apoligzed for chastizing Stevens after we made a deep run in the playoffs. Saying he was a good coach and he should stay. He won coach of the year last year. I kno this year at times we look like complete s**t but I dont think firing Stevens is really the answer at this point. Sure, I'd love for him to show more emotion out there and he does make dumb decisions with the lines at times but this team has played GREAT hockey under Stevens before, I know these guys can do it again. I'm still waiting for this team to pull of a good winning streak and I think we can turn it around, how far can they bury themselves before these pros figure a way to get out of it? I think we'll get it together soon. Maybe I am being too optimistic but we have enough talent to turn it around and defintely play better than we are, that relies partly on Stevens. I'm sure when we play horrible 1st or 2nd periods, Stevens tries to light a fire under these guys but we don't really know how well some of our guys react to Stevens coaching tactics. If we continue to play this poorly throughout the season then yea I say fire him. I just dont think this really is the time.

Or at least when he has some semblance of an idea of how to hold the right players accountable at the right times, implement a system, discipline his players, and fix recurring mistakes. wink.gif

I absolutely despise Tortorella. The only NHL head coach I possibly hate more is Lindy Ruff. He's one of the worst possible choices for this team right now and I wouldn't want him anywhere near my team. I like the idea of Paddock.
slapshot
At this point and time anyone but Stevens. Not because he shows no emotion. I could care less. It's because he is way in over his head. He can't make in game adjustments and is to quick to shake up lines.

I would like to see Nolan as well. He seemed like an even-keeled guy when he coached the Islanders but was also good at holding his players accountable. I know people will point to his record but he had absolutely no talent here.
