ok well lets see whos in F.A. right now that can help the flyers....

lets start with (drum roll)
1) Sundin
2) Shanahan
3) Forsberg

First off Sundin has been reported to be in extremely good shape and that he is ready to play within a weeks time. Flyers would get a real boost in offense with him. It is also reported that he is not looking for a high salary hes just looking for a team that can help him get to the cup.

Second will be Shanahan. Hes also looking to stay in the NY area (Tri-state area) as reported because he does not feel like moving his family out of N.Y. He came to P.H.'s office in search of an opportunity and i say take him. We could use his experience and he wont have to do much in the way of travel =]. Its also rumored he is not looking for a high contract and just playing time. (Vets. Minimum anyone?)

And now last but not least Forsberg and yeah i know what your thinking.. why would we go back to him. Lets just hear me out first. It is rumored that if Forsberg has his foot problems "Erased" then the flyers will be highly interested in having him back. This means his good season here will be back and that means Points and more wins possibly. This also means that we will have a better working offense then having Briere (note: it is not that i do not like Briere it is that i cannot stand the fact that when he came to philly that his gameplay took a nosedive.). This also means we may rob Richards of Captaincy ( i most certainly hope not).

Either way we need more offense and better defense. The way to fix our 50 man roster is to sign one of these "Fine" players and make the team better. I think we need to make a few trades to enable the possibility of getting these players on

1. Can't afford.
2. If he's affordable and we sign him to replace someone we moved in a trade for defense or goaltending, sure.
3. AAAAAAAAAHHHHHHH! You said the F word!

Yikes, why are you being hostile? I thought you just wanted people's input. That's mine.

If you want me to simply reply to what you wrote, you're dead wrong on thinking we need more offense. We have the best offense in the league. Also, Forsberg's been working to "erase" his foot problems for years. It won't happen this year. It won't happen ever. He's done.

If he was able to play atleast 60 games plus playoffs, I would want him in a heartbeat. He was amazing at both ends of the ice, and I hate to get started on him, but you cant help but smile thinking about his first season here, and what he was able to do.

Ryguy did you seriously put Forsberg on that list.

Sundin is was to expensive.

Shanny is the only real possibility

Yeah, they were definitely interested last season, and I read up as much as I could about the possibility back then...Forsberg will only go to a team only if he is sure that he will play well and contribute...the foot situation is still there and him staying healthy and not on the IR is a big factor...BUT from research last year, Gags injury had a bit to do with him not being there and I read at one point that he would have considered Philly more had Gagne been able to play, and Gags is back healthy and his play is not disappointing this season...

However, I think Shanny is still a bigger possibility than Forsberg....especially since he has met with and discussed the possibility with Holmgren...Shanny would also be cheaper and they would have to forfeit less of the current squad in order to make room...
richards for captain
Forsberg, Injury Prone, $$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$$

Shanny: A very good veteran offensive player, who may come in very cheap maybe under a mil.

what's this the CIA your sources are "disclosed" because you DON'T have any. Let's use common sense give me one good reason the flyers would want Forsberg? That would be the dumbest move EVER! It's completely pointless. It would do nothing for the team.

I don't want Forsberg back.

Sundin has to be a lot of money.

Correction. Sundin wants a cup or a cup competing team. He will bring down his salary price if he can get on a team that can contend in the playoffs and get to the finals to his belief

From 10 million offered by Vancouver to ? Unless he'll take a 1 year contract @ entry level w/o a no trade contact, any trade to make room would be to much. He's 1 dimensional whereas Shanny plays both ends. Forsberg thinks he's healthy. We've seen that before. Shanny on the cheap to replace what we have to give for a D is the only option. And, Bouweester isn't the only good one out there that might be available. Let's hope Burke rolls the dice & thinks Sundin is the piece that brings the Cup back to Anaheim.
laxgrl2PA-c
Ok guys...no fighting over me wink.gif just kidding...at this point I think it is important to realize that Holmgren will likely entertain any and all possibilities of 'fixing' the current woes of the team. He has made public statements with regards to the meetings with Shanahan and will probably wait another couple of weeks for Shanny to decide prior to discussing other opportunities in either Sundin or Forsberg...However, after hearing what Holmgren had to say about the meeting, I believe he said similar things last seasod when he met with Forsberg prior to his return and ultimate decision to sign elsewhere...

I wouldn't blame Shanny for waiting out the next few games because as old as these guys are getting, they want a trip to the finals and or the SC. If the flyers don't start creating the scoring opportunities from team D, then his time is better spent looking elswhere if he wants to be a contender

The other thing to consider here is who they would let go in order to sign any of these FAs and how that will impact the team...we can't trade away any of the top 9 without possibly causing resentment from the guys that are left...they may be able to sign Shanahan for around 1 mil but they would need to trade a couple of contracts for draft picks or prospects...

if it ain't broke don't fix it. our defense needs help, not our offense. as of the other day we were the highest scoring team in the league. none of these guys will make a significant defensive improvement (if any). shanny is a good defensive forward but he is old and won't have any serious impact. if we are going to make a change it needs to be on the blue line or in net. i'd say go after a good veteran defender. bolster the line with experience, not youth.

the only reason we would get shanny is for defense
let me explain...

we pick him up it forces us to move some of our offense for a good d man. I.E. Knuble, Lupul, Upshall, Metropolit, Asham or even Jones or Eminger. Mix and match any of them however you please and package them for a Bowmiester caliber player

true i could see getting rid of maybe Knuble and either Jones or Eminger and our offense is still good and we can have a Bowmiester caliber player

so your telling me you wouldnt want Sundin? if we could get him...?? He has a average of 70+ points every season since the 1995-1996 season. I say sign him and drop metroploit...

PHI 2,409,817 2,133,871 275,946 - 62,309,874 9,662,060 54,781,685 1,918,315 were still 1.9 mill under the cap
