Yeah, I'm going to have to go ahead and disagree with you here. You should never do something purely because it's your "reputation." The morons who throw stink bombs are in the minority and the rest of us have to live with this crap.
Hypothetically speaking, let's say you got a bad reputation as a child molester because someone you know was accused of molesting a kid. Would you embrace it and molest kids because that's your reputation? It doesn't make sense, does it?
Remember when a Caps fan hit Jeff Carter in the head during the playoffs with a beer bottle and he called the fans "really classy?" I would bet money that many Philly fans said a lot of insulting things about the person who did that. Why support this when it is clearly so much worse?
1. Molesting children is way different then a crazed fan throwing a stink bomb on the ice. Comparing the two makes no sense.
2. You are forgetting that it is a hockey game, not a terrorist attack on America. Fans are going to do stupid things all the time, and it happens in all different cities.
3. It is Philly's reputation that has tons of other hockey players feeling intimidated when they come here to play us. Whether we have a crazy reputation or not, it is one of the most unique reputations in the league. How could you not love the fact that people are actually scared to play us at home? I for one love it.
Now, that being said, I do agree that it was a stupid move on the persons behalf, but I just don't understand why everyone is getting their panties in a bunch about it. This kind of stuff is going to continue to happen for years and years to come. The fact is, Philly fans are insane, and there isn't really anything anyone can do about it because, lets face it, Philadelphia fans are extremely thirsty for a championship, trophy, title, super bowl, something. Some fans just choose to express their happiness and anger in way different ways.
