I just wanted to get some peoples opinions. Parent, Jones, and Downie are out for a while, we lost to our AHL counterpart, and our pre-season wasn't exactly what I had expected for a team to at least make it to the ECF again this year.
How do people feel about this? I'm not trying to discourage, I just wanted to see what other people thought of what has been going on so far. Is it still to early to tell how this team will be?

The same as Flyershooligan, I feel pretty good about this season.
When you say that pre-season didn't go as you expected, how do you mean? What were you expecting? Pre-season games are always there to experiment with different players, lines, tactics and give the younger and 'fringe players' a chance to gain that bit of experience in competing against other NHL sides. I haven't seen him play, but from all accounts Sbisa made a good name for himself and looks like he's going to get a run in the side.
It's a shame we've lost Jones and Downie to injuries, but I believe we have the players to step up when needed.
Tonight, the Wach is going to be jumping and the players are going to be right up for this and with the Rags playing overseas and last night, we have a slight edge in the fatigue factor.
This season is going to be good, if not, better than last in my opinion.

Downie is in tonight. So it's Jones and Parent out. I feel ok. Kukkonen is good for blocking shots and Sbisa hasn't looked out of place. The other 4 on defense I have no problem with. I think we are in good shape. Not boasting we are winning the Cup but I feel confident about this team.

We will be fine, the flyers will be fine, injuries happen, and like Gutter said atleast its October 11th not March 11th, our veteran leadership on this team and just the overall talent wont let this team stumble mightily out of the gates.

I watched some highlights earlier, and I agree. Several times the Hawks could have capitalized. I haven't been all that impressed with the Rags defence in the first three games so far. Tonight they are going to be tested more than Chicago and it'll be interesting to see.

You honestly think the Flyers were trying to win or taking it seriously? Might the Phantoms have been the only ones busting their humps to showcase their skills to the big club? It was a casual scrimmage where the Flyers get a little excercise and the Phantoms do what they can to show what they got.

Yea let's wait a couple more games. We had a real ****** first period last night, that's it. Briere looked great, making some sick *** passes. That first line is gonna be awesome. Lupul looked like he was the only one who wanted to play in the first, then he just started to miss his chances. Even though he blew some chances, he still looked better than Carter. Carter didn't look like he wanted to be there. Give it a couple games though.

We are in bad shape already losing a third of our starting D, better now than later in the season. Its going to be a rough stretch though, neither of these goalies can make up for such a shallow D. Pressure is going to be on the O to keep up with our opponents point for point all season. I have faith that Richards can throw this team on his back anyway though!

We really don't know if they are, or aren't. Who knows? They COULD be the "missing piece" to "the puzzle," but we won't know for sure if that's the case until they get back in a few months!
Unless you mean, the club should be able to handle it because it's not like we lost them for the entire season. (I.E. Gagne last season... I know he was different, especially cause he plays a different position, but the "entire season" part was what I was getting at.)

They won't miss them is basically what I was saying. In a situation like Gagne everyone had to step up because he was such an impact player. Jones Parent and Downie are just solid players. If I'm not mistaken Jones is more of a two way defenseman and Parent is kind of a stay at home. Not a big hole to fill there. No reason Vaananen and Kukonen can't fill that hole for a short time. Downie is just a pretty gritty guy who can chip in a fair amount of goals. I don't know who there is but he isn't a guy you win or lose by. So yeah basically that's what I'm saying.

Well, Downie is expected back tomorrow night, so we didn't actually "lose" him. Parent & Jones will be back in a few months, so we didn't really "lose" them either, they're just gone temporarily. We'll have to see what happens when they come back, & weather or not Vaananen &/or Kukkonen can step up, or not. Last night Kukkonen wasn't that great. Heck, I think he rode the bench most of the night, but Vaananen did pretty good. I'm not saying either is better then the other, I think before anyone says that the team has to get more then one game under their belt, so we'll have to wait & see what happens!

! feel a LOT uneasy. Our team defense was suspect prior to these injuries. Goaltending has always been an issue. And, I do not like Stevens as a coach. He doesn'f seen to be a motivator. This team always seems to come out flat, no jump, no intensity, no direction. We were fortunate to make the playoffs last season and we were (I have to say it) lucky to get as far as we did in the post season. This could become a long and disappointing season. I don`t envision us hoisting Lord Stanley`s mug at the end of it. Homer has done a lot of good things, hiring Stevens isn`t one of them!
