I'm pretty sure it is. They said in one of the opening few lines that Marty is "breaking it in, & isn't comfortable with it yet"... that to me indicates it's done. However because it's a different fit, & Marty isn't comfortable with it yet, we won't see it until he is.

Wait is it a normal NHL mask that is painted to look like Parent's? Or is it actually some old school mask like Parent's?

No. It's on my camera and it won't upload onto the computer.

But its just a normal mask with a bunch of old school masks painted on it. They're all kind of mushed together.

No idea. It doesn't really say. We'll have to wait & see, but I'd imagine it's a somewhat normal NHL mask. Though, I could be wrong cause they said Marty isn't comfortable with it, so maybe it is like the old school type of mask. (But I'm pretty sure he'd have to have that plate piece that is on the back of the new helmets because of something I heard during a broadcast last year, when he got knocked over in the crease, & smacked the back of his head on the net's goal post. Which would mean it would be "old school" but not really... if that makes sense...)

I'm pretty sure we all do, but we won't see it until Marty is comfortable wearing it, so it'll probably be a little while yet. Maybe opening night against the Rags? Have to wait & see!

It's smart to make it all white because a shooter will not see his head so obviously when he takes a quick look before a shot. We'll probably see Marty make a lot of incidental saves with his face this season. It's the same concept behind painting whit patters on a goalie's leg pads.

I think Marty is going with the old school mask to strike fear into the heart of players during the shootout.

I think it'll be a regular mask, but will be decorated with like, the holes that were in the old masks, then the tiny Flyers logo. Innovative idea is that's the case!

i dont think so, he was aying how he had to get used to the feel for it and his vision. i dont think he would have to worry about that if it was the same design just a different paint job. hes going all out on this one. I can't wait to see it

It seems the Flyers are all about tributes these days.

They honored the Spectrum. They honored their former captains. Word is, they're going to honor the Stanley Cup-winning teams of the '70s - again.

But now it's more personal, as Flyers goalie Marty Biron plans to honor Bernie Parent all season long.

Biron has a new mask that he will unveil early in the season. It plays tricks on the eye because of it's well made art work, but it's being done as an honorarium to the greatest Flyers goalie ever.

Biron's mask is painted like the old Parent mask, which was the inspiration for the mask worn by Jason Voorhees in the slasher film series Friday the 13th.

And, when you look at it from a distance, that's what Biron's mask looks like - The white mask with holes all around to breath, and a simple Flyers logo on the forehead, just like Bernie.

But, a closer look shows a much more intricate design.

For the mask is so well-done artistically, that there are smaller versions of the Bernie mask drawn into the big picture.

It's like that optical illusion with the hourglass and two faces. Or the arrow in the Fed Ex logo (Haven't seen that one yet? Look for it. Once you find it, you'll never miss it again... promise).

"It's a simple mask," said Biron. "The other one had a lot of different details. This is simple. Shades of the old mask and the Flyers logo and that's it. That's what makes it fun."

Biron said he thought about doing it last season, but passed.

"I chickened out at the last minute," he said. "I didn't know if it was going to look good or not. The painter was really mad at me. When I told him we were going to do a new mask this year, he asked if we were going to do the Bernie paint job. I felt bad and said 'I guess so.' But it looks good."

Biron said he wasn't sure when the new mask would debut, because he has to get used to it since it is structurally different than what he's been using for the past few years, but he said it won't be long.

Great article find, Dube. Sounds like it's gonna be a great mask, & could very well trick the opposing teams shooters when they're going to take a shot. I'm sure he'll surprise a few of them with a save they didn't think he'd make cause of the way the mask sounds like it's designed. I really can't wait to see it!

wtf is going on. he can't wear a bernie - jason - type mask. he must have a cage or his vision will suffer. I'm skeptical about all this "changing of the mask" stuff. New gear can impact a goalie. Especially a helmet/mask set-up!! Need pics asap.

Sure he can - look at the pic I posted of Bernie yesterday, and then look at the one below: very similar, except for the addition of the cage. Put a few Flyers logos on the forehead & temples, and voila...a new age, old-style mask.

I look forward to seeing this mask, can't go wrong with vintage hockey looks. It will look great if we get a more vintage looking jersey, with the 70's mask.
