I still don't see why he would want to go to NYR when he wants a cup, you'd think he'd be banking on Montreal.

Don't be surprised to see him get almost three times that. And with Montreal having about 6.5 mil of cap space already, moving one of their centers like Lapierre, or even Plekanec/Higgins could make that salary capable for them.
I truly believe that if Sundin was willing to take a pay cut like that, he'd already be on a team that wants him at this point in time because the offers would have been flooding into his agent's office. Do you realize how many teams(even contenders) would LOVE to have Sundin for 2.5-3 mil? Most, if not all of them would.

I agree with that. If he really wanted to make the biggest run for a cup, he could go to a powerhouse like detroit or SJ for dirt cheap (could you imagine sundin, hossa, datysuk and zetterberg....holy)
Anyways, we have to remember that these guys are the players and we arent. Even though we think the Rangers probably arent a big contender, to Sundin, they might be.

I think Sundin's smarter than the average Rangers fan, and knows better.

they are going to move gomez or drury to make room under cap to fit sundin. rumars say they will move gomez to Vancouver. witch means they are just moving one star to bring another in. so they dont get much better or worse
Taking into account the fact that Gomez is 28 and Sundin is 37, that would be an awful move. But w/e.. Rangers seem to love picking up all these dinosaurs at the end of their careers when they're running on fumes.

Most Canadian teams are based in the US. The teams based in Canada - with the exception of the two Alberta based - are largely Euro. Ironic!

At which point he'll be stealing money from the Flyers.
If he wants real money he better be ready to play.

Sundin is one of my favourite players, and he still produces at a point-per-game level. He brings a lot of leadership, and it's certainly not due to him that Toronto has had a few bad years recently. We'd have to clear cap space to sign him though. While I like Brière as a player, I'm not that fond of his contract and I'd easily take Sundin over him anyway. He has that NMC however, and I don't want to see Carter dealt.

I hate to bring this thread back from the dead once again but does anybody here know someone that has connections within the organization? Reason I'm asking is a co-worker of mine just told me that his daughter who is dating someone that knows a high ranking official within the Flyers, was told this morning that Sundin has/is signed/signing with the Flyers and that Nitty and Knuble are on the way out to make room. Don't shoot the messenger, just seeing if anyone has heard anything of the sort, unless the source is Eklund.

Wow, that's a lot to wrap my head around. Briere moving to wing gives the rumor some new life. If things were to happen the way you've heard, then with Hatch on LTIR we would have roughly 6.5 mil freed up to play with.
The problem with this, is that it leaves us with no viable back up to Marty, and unless Matts is coming cheap we would be hard pressed to fill that spot. The last that I heard was Homer is no longer considering Sundin, but he was also reportedly annoyed at Sundin's non-commital to anything at this point.

I would say Munroe is more than ready to backup Biron. Of course that leaves a big hole across the street. But I think it's time for us to start holding some of our young talent to the fire and see how they handle themselves (like Duchesne, Ouellet could have been brought in to fill in for the Phantoms, Teslak could be plucked from college)

Huh. Well, moving Niitty won't clear any room because we'd still need a backup goalie and Niitty's pretty affordable. Maybe we could save about 500k by brining a rookie in but I don't know who would be worth it.

Interesting thought on Ouellet playing for the Phantoms. Or, maybe they're leaving the Phantoms without a viable goalie option to ensure the Flyers beat them in their preseason game.

It's only a matter of time. Then poor Meltzer will have to spend the next two weeks fielding questions about Sundin in his comments sections.

Agreed. With Briere on the right wing, we have an even deeper surplus of right wingers.

If Knuble and Niittymaki are on there way out I would hope it be via trade. It be stupid to just waive them. Just give away a potential 30 goal scorer and a solid back up away for nothing?
I love how are lines would look with Sundin though I would hope if that is true they get something for Knuble and Niittymaki.

Though the odds of this happening are quite slim....
If we really wanted to trade Nittymaki, espeically if it was a package with Knuble or Kukkonen (Or someone else)
There's a few goalies still unsigned that I could see signing for the league minimum, or close to it
- Jean-Sebastien Aubin
- Jocelyn Thibault
- David Aebischer
There's more, but IMO, these guys would be good enough to back up Biron.

Well, I don't know about the Niitty rumor, but the newest news on the Flyers homepage is Jean-Sebastien Aubin has been signed by the Flyers.
