Cote Carnival to Fight MS

Presented by The 5 Hole Outfitters

Just a heads up

In the coming weeks I will be organizing a mini-carnival in Riley Cote's name to benefit MSAA. It's still in the very early planning stages but I'd like to let everyone know that it's in the works. Cote is on board and he will be recruiting other players to get involved as well. I'd like to make this an annual event to get us back into hockey as the summer comes to an end.

It will be similar to the Flyers Wives event, only on a much smaller scale. Signing tables, meet and greet, Flyers Alumni, raffles, door prizes, food and music, and of course The5Hole Gear.

Tentative Date: Aug 16 or 17
Location: MSAA National Headquarters - Cherry Hill, NJ (pending exec approval)

I will also be looking for some corporate sponsorships for this event. Whether it be through donation of a raffle item or buying advertising spots etc. Sponsors will be included on the back of the event t-shirt as well as given the opportunity to provide their own marketing materials to be displayed at the event.

Any marketing avenues that I pursue to advertise for the event will also list the primary sponsors as contributing partners.

Also, If anyone would like to make a donation to help cover operating expenses, it would be greatly appreciated. I do not have non-profit tax status so unfortunately any donations for operating expenses are not tax deductible.

I will update the board in this thread when I have more details hammered out and to make announcements as to who else will be participating.

For some reason it appears that my ability to start a new thread has been disabled. If someone could copy and paste this post in a new thread it would be greatly appreciated. This is a charity event and will benefit from as much exposure as possible. Also, I would appreciate being contacted via PM concerning why my posting abilities have been limited.

Prob can't make it to the event but would pledge some $$ for the cause. Could we get Cindy Crosby to do a dunk tank? I am sure he could fill the dunk tank with his tears.

I would like to give you all some updates now that things are falling into place. I traveled to the location last night to meet with the bar owner and manager, as well as my MSAA contact and a person on my planning committee. We had a great meeting and got a TON of work done finalizing some things.

The date, time and location are set!

Sun, Aug 17th
1-4 pm
Swanky Bubbles in Cherry Hill

Cost:
$50 for 21+
$20 for 10-20yrs
$10 for under 10

What is included in entry fee:
Open bar (beer, liquor, wine) ID Required
Several food buffet stations throughout the restaurant
Event T-shirt, suitable for autographs
Music provided by band(s) and/or DJ
Door Prizes every 15/30 mins

$50 was way more than I envisioned charging, until we started discussing restaurant overhead such as the 20+ bar, kitchen and serving staff that need to be paid. Also keep in mind, they are paying all the additional permit fees, and sacrificing their busy Sunday Brunch. They will receive 40% of ticket sales, MSAA will get 60%. I have no problem with this and neither did the MSAA rep. Because I feel the ticket price was a bit more than I wanted, I will be providing the event shirts at no additional cost.

Tickets will be limited to 350. This is an ONLINE PRE-SALE EVENT ONLY! First come-first serve. I will be setting things up with an online ticket company and if their system allows, there will be a max of 5 tickets per order. There is a $.99 fee per ticket charged by the ticket agency. Tickets will go on sale at a later date and there will be plenty of notice. We are planning on media hype once we issue a press release and the tickets will go on sale after the media runs with it. This will allow people who are not necessarily part of the online community to have prior notice.

We are accepting volunteers to help staff the event, but we are getting close to being fully staffed. A final volunteer list will be submitted to the Flyers, Phantoms and Wachovia Security in order to weed out any known stalkers or troublemakers.

As of now---

Guests:
Riley Cote (he will be recruiting others and we have several not yet committed 'yes' players)

Activities:
Signing room- Several tables will be set up with multiple players at each. Make your way around the room and collect them all. Players will have scheduled 1 hour signing blocks. We DO NOT want guys to be stuck at the signing table all day. This day is for them to have fun too.
-fee-undetermined (100% proceeds to MSAA)

Photo sessions- We are looking into several ways to accomplish this through professional photographers with online ordering capabilities. Attendees are welcomed to bring their own camera
-fee-undetermined (proceeds to MSAA)

Video games- Game Crazy will be providing gaming tables with one, two or all of the following: Guitar Hero 3, Rock Band, Dance Dance Revolution. Fans will have the chance to play against or with Flyers and Phantom players.
-fee-undetemined (100% proceeds to MSAA)

Music: We have had several offers from bands to play this event. The bar's insurance policy forbids live entertainment, but they are looking into having a rider drawn up to allow that day. A DJ would be the fall back.
-fee-none

The bar is applying for a permit for outdoor activities. If the permit is approved there will be activities on the lawn including dunk tank. -fee-unknown (proceeds to MSAA)

Celebrity Bartenders: We are hoping, and expecting, some of the guys will be interested in jumping behind the bar and slinging a few drinks. This should be entertaining!
-fee-Downing the occasional poorly mixed drink

Tables:
MSAA- providing literature and information about the disease and how you can help.
Briere Bunch- Invited
Flyers Fan Club- Invited
The5Hole Outfitters- Gear for sale. % of total sales will be donated

MEET AND GREET:
Here's the tricky one. Our goal is to create an atmosphere where the players, Alumni and personalities can mingle with fans without being overwhelmed by chaos. We want the players to feel comfortable and enjoy the event, not be stuck signing all day. We ask that everyone please consider this request throughout the day. These guys are a friendly bunch, please be cool and allow them to interact.

That's it (off the top of my head) If I remember anything else, I'll post it.

NOTE: now that this thing is rolling, my forum browsing has been severely limited. I don't always get the chance to stop in and check for questions or PM's. If you need to get in touch with me or if you would like to donate or offer corporate sponsorship, please do so through the contact page at www.CoteCarnival.com Click on Drew Miller.

Thanks all, and I hope to see many of you out there!

PPhhewww.....Just checking.

I'm pregnant with my 3rd due in July. However, if all goes well I'm sure I'll be itching to get out of the house for a few hours by the middle of August.

My husband and I actually rather give money towards a good cause than pay for autographs (we are not really big groupies or autograph people), but my boys might enjoy it.

My goal is to make it as interactive as possible. I don't want it to be just a big signing event, but rather a meet and greet type event.

Heres the email I received

"Hello Everyone,

Thank you for your interest in the Cote Carnival. This event was established and planned with the best intentions for all involved, however we have hit a roadblock that would prove to be impossible to overcome if we attempt to move forward with this.

The Flyers legal department has decided that they cannot allow a privately organized event to take place without complete oversight by the Organization.

The members of the Cote Carnival Planning Committee are disappointed in this decision, as we have all put in alot of time and legwork in an attempt to make this event a success. However, we have no choice but to yield to the Flyers Organization on this issue.

The Flyers are apparently planning a replacement carnival, which will be run exclusively by the Organization, and benefit MSAA.

I have no details at all about their plans, other than their intentions of running a separate event under the same basis.

I would like to apologize to everyone for these unfortunate circumstances and thank all of you for your interest and support. A special thank you to the individuals who have volunteered to help work the event, and to those who have submitted donations as well. All donations will be refunded within the next few days.

Again, the planning of this event was with the best intentions, but there was nothing that could be done once lawyers got involved.

Thank you again for your support.

Sincerely,

Drew Miller
Event Chairman

I've been ranting and raving the whole year about the Flyers PR department and organization as a whole in regards to how they treat the fans

1. bumping up the price of tix for STH
2. the questionable way they lure you into the Carnival experience
3. FLyers night at the PHillies
4. now this

Just ANOTHER example of how the PEOPLE WHO RUN are beloved organization are ruining it.

Amen. But he still feels compelled to whine about it for some reason.

Anyway, the guy that was organizing the Cote Carnival (5hole.com on here) posts on another board I'm on. He explained the situation as apparently he didn't go through the proper channels of setting up the event, amongst other things (5hole.com correct me if I've misinterpreted) and then legal got involved. It sucks but at the same time we don't know exactly what went down. Let's hope they do arrange something to be held after all, MSAA is a great charity.

Crap like this is why I will not renew my season ticket package this year. That organization had a noble cause in mind and The Flyers brass is upset because they weren't making money off it.

Or maybe they are protecting their image
mchrissy77
It's too bad. I don't often make arguments for the Big Corp Entities, but when I saw there was going to be an open bar... that usually creates the kind of problems the Flyers and the NHL by association wouldn't want to have associated with them. It brings up a slew of liability issues for them.
