I played last years and I played this year's demo. I think that the game is good not great. I'm defiantly getting both again this year

Play in the playoffs without playing in the regular season. It doesn't exist in 08. That is one thing that really bothered me about 08. That and the physics.

I got used to the lack of detail but still it could have used more.

I think people averaged them out on their own. Even if you did that the overall's still wouldn't be right.

To get the Overall Ratings :>>> You just have to take the The numbers from NHL09 and plug all the numbers into the edit player feature in NHL08. Then it gives you the overall rating once you plug all the numbers in from NHL09.

Yeah, rookies won't be put into the game until they're officially on a roster and have played at least one NHL game. Then the roster update will be worked on and released in time. The same as NHL 08.

They really do, Richards and Staal were equal last year, Coburn was a 73 and taken out of the starting roster and put on the Phantoms, Carter was a 76, all this after the trade deadline, I mean come on.

The Demo isnt up on 360 live yet, but I've played 2k9's demo, in my opinion NHL 2k9 just flat out sucks, there are no announcers, aiming shots, its overall a bad game IMO anyone else play it yet?

Nope, didn't try 2k9, but nhl 09 is awesome. They have a 5 min. period for you to play, goes into a shoot out if it is tied, and they also have a demo for the "be a pro" mode. thats really fun.

That's definitey a 'lil crazy! The overalls are definitely weird in some places but I'm blowing them off as I know this game will rock and rock hard! Why is Staal always rated good anyway? The kid's fine but other than his first season he hasn't been spectacular or anything. I'd give him 83 max and Carter deserves a 85 in my opinion. Whatever, I can never sem to shake away those dang Staal over - raters! Oh and the Rgs offense s better cause they got the so - called "Super Hero" Markus Naslund!

First- just write in the standard font, those colors are just annoying.

Naslund is only an 81... so, thats not really that good, but Drury is an overrated 85, Gomez higher than Richards. HAHAH. sherdev has the same OVR as Briere, while all Zherdev does is turn the puck over. This is just obscene!! Staal couldn't even hit the net last season, and he was a Sniper then, and I think he will be a Sniper again, bc there is nothing else he really does well, PK'er? Idk.

Whatever, I still think Naslund should be 80 or something cause he was missing shoot - out shots for god f'n sakes! But I don't se drury being that over - rated, having a 85 overall. He's a well - rounded player in my opinion but you either love Drury or you hate him! Oh and Gomez, he's done nothing to get himself rated higher than Richards! Like cme on EA, even though their are only a few overall screw - ups this is what will ruin your gsme for us hockey fans! Like do you have a grudge with Phillie players or something?

these ratings really do seem silly to me, id be really surprised if they were the final overalls, i mean they still have sundin on the leafs, so this might be right after the season ended. Also they still have Jason Smith as an 84, which is absurd because that would mean hes better than timonen, if these are the ratings shame on you EA, you create such a great game but have such terrible ratings

People on the EA forums are saying that OS could have edited the ratings to cause commotion.

I downloaded it and played it yesterday, it's really sweet, there is an actual combo of buttons so chip the puck in deep and you actually get it sometimes, unlike in 08. The new defensive stick is more realistic, and you don't trip people everytime you try to do something. The new stick lifting feature is very useful when you are back-checking. There are new hits, and new ways to block shots. You can push the puck while skating out of your own end and through the neutral zone which is really cool too. You can also protect the puck with your arm, it is really cool, realistic, and it looks cool when you see it.

Be A Pro mode was really fun aswell. when you skate around the camera angle changes, and can sometimes make a little harder to play the game. Also, you get a good view of the angles on the net when you are coming in on the fly do to the new camera angles.

I would definitely recommend that you buy NHL 09 by EA and not NHL 2k9 by 2k sports. 09 is not only more realistic, the graphics are much better, and the game-play is much more fun and exciting. 2k9 wasn't that exciting IMO, and the game-play was terrible, IMO again.

Lol. Don't allow your homerism to influence your opinion. As much as I love Richards, he's no Ovechkin. I don't think Cindy should be rated higher than Ovechkin, personally. But both should be rated higher than Richards, without a doubt.

Those OS "screen shots" seem fishy to me. They have the same roster photos as last season.. they always update the roster photos..

Why did that china doll Havlat's rating go up to an 88? He was injured the majority of the season, just like Gagne, and somehow he moves up 1 point while Gagne moves down 2? How does that happen.

I am still trying to decide whether or not to buy it this year b/c it seems that EA doesn't give a rats arse about PC players anymore. The only difference between each year's version is the rosters... pfft.

well today is an age where games are more specified for certain platforms....a game like NHL 09 is specified for console gaming, its just a better game on a console and preforms much better and sells better on the console, while today many games are still made for the PC just not games like NHL 09 that like i said before is much better on the console...new games like Spore and Starcraft 2 are PC games, because they are point and click type games which makes sense.

That may be true for certain PC configurations. However, today, there are MANY PC configurations available that are capable of performing better than the top consoles available. So, what you're stating isn't really true. The reason is that it would cost EA much more money to produce a PC version that utilizes the specifications to perform well on higher-end PCs. And they'd rather spend less to create a "dumbed down" version for the PC that's capable of running even on older PC configurations. That way, they aren't alienating consumers that don't have high-end PCs, and can make even more money for a product that doesn't live up to the standards of their console product.

This is an EA issue, plain and simple. Not an issue that today is an age where games are more specified for certain platforms. There are MANY games released on consoles that also have a PC version released that aren't dumbed down versions.

I've heard this a couple of times and I don't get. Turnovers for forwards are meaningless. Forwards turn the puck over. Especially guys like Zherdev who carry the puck so much. Jaromir Jagr once led the league in goals, points and turnovers. Besides Briere only had about 10 less turnovers and was a minus 22. Zherdev was a minus 9 and had about 20 .

Also do you really not like Jordan Staal? Why do you think the Pens did so well last year? It was the checking line that staal centered. One of the most complete players in the league.

NHL 09 is sweet! The ratings are a little...off in certain places. Coburn and Timonen are way too low.

Nevertheless, I've become addicted to the new "Pro Mode". I created myself as a offensive d-man and joined the Thrashers. I figured if I joined a not-so-good team I could make the NHL roster quicker. So far, I have four goals, four assists, and I'm plus 8 in five games. (I'm playing for the Chicago Wolves)
