In that case, we have enough alumni to make up the greatest coaching team of all-time. What are Dave Brown, Frank Bathe, Glen Cochrane, Dupont, Behn Wilson, and The Hammer up to?

OK - Chief, Dave Brown, and Paul Coffey all walk through the door (what's the connection, who knows? This was way before Coffey played for the Flyers). We were playing pool with DB, and he told us it was Coffey sitting at the bar with Berube. I went up to talk to him, and apparently Chief had had enough from everyone coming up & interrupting them, so he told me to "leave him the f*** alone before I kick your f***ing a**." Needless to say, I left him the f*** alone.

That's funny, 'cause what I told my friends when I got back to my table!! And I may have been drinking, but I wasn't gonna mess with the Chief (that's back when he had the killer mullet).

I've always gotten the impression that spotting a Flyer/former Flyer in NJ is very easy. A friend of mine who is a hockey writer can probably point out the homes/summer homes of 6 or 7 different former Flyers. My family had a place in the Crest but I rarely made it up that far north to hang out. So, I missed out on all of those sightings.

Without hijacking this thread, I will agree with both of those statements. Propp, whenever I spotted him, was always in the company of a nice-looking gal, and would always acknowledge us when we said hello from across the bar. Dave Brown was just a regular guy, very cool; you'd never know he played in the NHL if you didn't know who he was. Berube I only saw there once.

Wasn't it Berube that got Downie back in line last year? I remember reading something about Berube chewing him out in the hallway after Downie got suspended or got into some trouble during a Phantoms game.

Not sure how I feel about this. I think I'm also one who would rather have Paddock as the asst. for the Flyers. I'm not sold that Berube knows enough to be a quality NHL assistant coach. I'd rather have knowledge back there than have a head case who's just going to threaten to beat the **** out of people if they make mistakes. I'd rather players have a coach that can teach them how to learn from their mistakes, than have them scared that they're going to get a butt whooping.
I'm just not sure about this. Loyalty is great. But only when it isn't a detriment to the organization.

I thought Berube did a good job with the Phantoms last season and will be fine as an asst.. I get what your saying about Paddock being more qualified to help with player development, but I don't see Berube being a detriment. Only time will tell.

I don't know about Berube. Loved him as a player here, but when i heard him interview on one of the Coatsey's Corners, i thought maybe he wasn't all there. I know he's not the brightest bulb on the porch, but his speech was slurred, he had difficulty finding the words, & he seemed jittery.
I hope that was just nervousness, but i wish him all the luck in the '08-'09 year. Add some spark to that bench CHIEF!

Since I'm jacked on coffee and making a thousand posts this morning let me give everyone some knowledge:
Berube sucks! No coaching ability what so ever. He's the problem with the D. He can't coach them up to fix the problem because he doesn't know how to fix it. HIS COACHING RESPONSIBILITY IS THE DEFENSE. For everyone person that wants to fire Stevens, I say look to his left and right, what do you see??? We're finding out Terry Murray was the mastermind in that outfit. I don't want to hear look at the King's record they have very little talent and no goaltending. FIRE BERUBE!!

well for one, the term "stiff" implies a person lacks emotion, which berube doesnt. second, ive never heard a bad word about him during his career as both a player and a coach. i think most people dont like him b/c he was an enforcer

I guess it's a NE philly term that no one else knows about, my apologies. I'm sure he's a fine AHL coach, but to think he would have the same success as an NHL coach is asinine. Again, I'm not saying that I don't like him....I just don't like him as an assistant coach of the Flyers. To sum it up, he just doesn't come off as an intelligent person.

I don't think it is necessarily that. I think it is because it appears he only got the job due to his connection with the organization rather than actual experience and success. I would rather see the organization hire the best people available not just those who once wore the orange and black.

Haha..I like Berube because he WAS a goon, but thats just me.
I think he did a good job with the Phantoms last season and think he could be a NHL coach some day but right now he lacks in the experience dept. I would have left him as coach of the Phantoms as I think Stevens lack of emotion is rubbing off on him. Paddock should be Stevens asst. IMO.
