Full Version: Would A Petition Work To Get Tv Coverage For The Pre-season Games
Philadelphia Flyers > Forum > General Flyers Discussion

Every year it seems like it is more of an adventure to watch the nhl pre-season games on TV. Not that I mind watching them on the internet, but hate that I have to buy a subscription to a non Flyer affiliatted site to watch these games. I would like to know everyones opinion about if anything could be done about it or is this just common practice amoung all the NHL Treams?
thank you and have a nice day

Not gonna happen. Too much involved, not enough interest.

I know but i love to dream that maybe the flyers would just start there own network since they own a cable company ( sigh)
FlyersGirl
They should at least stream them online. The Oilers are going to do that this year.

That would be really cool. In Italy, and I think in some other countries, the big soccer clubs have their own networks.

That would be good enough for me.

A valid petition may be enough to get the ball rolling for that.

NHL Center Ice (online) streamed almost every pre-season game, for free, last year. They will probably do it again this year.

I think the preseason game at the Spectrum is going to be on CSN. At least that's something...Plus it will be a really cool game to watch for those who won't be there.
Flyershooligan
i doubt it
LeafsFanRyan52
you dont have anything like FlyerTV?
we've got LeafsTV. i dont have it for two reasons:
1. I had it, and they said it will be 1 dollar a month. ended up paying 4 bucks a month for 4-5 months until i noticed (even in the offseason)
2. MLSE doesnt deserve money for an overpriced chanel just to see 12 games a year. they should be on free chanels (basic chanel whatever) or the chanel should be free if they show that they dont give a s*** about the leafs winning, just about making money

but whatever, buisness is buisness..

No, nothing like that exists here. Hockey is a lot more popular in Canada. The NHL isn't even on ESPN, yet sports such as the AFL, WBNA and college baseball are all on ESPN.

Do petitions ever work for anything?
Dave
Cannot see it happening. Centre Ice is going to be the best I think.

I know i'm not exactly on topic here, but my Direct TV subscription ends in November of '09. I'm wondering if Comcast and Direct TV are any closer to an agreement with Direct TV broadcasting CSN.

Back on topic, it's amazing the stuff they air on ESPN and they won't put pre-season hockey on it? I think one day they had guys twirling logs in water FFS! And women's basketball....umm...give me a frigin break! I can say the same about the NBA too.

Even in hockey crazed Canada we don't get pre-season games on TV so I can't see it happening in the US. I agree it would be great to watch pre-season games. One reason I like to watch them is because they usually play the players trying to make the team and for some, it's the only chance you get to see them play. For alot of people, pre-season isn't of interest to them. Even the arena isn't full for pre-season.

Can't see it happening and who would you petition. I'm not positive how it works there, but here in Canada we have 3 different networks that cover hockey (CBC, TSN and Sportsnet).

If I can get it streamed on-line somewhere, I'm happy enough.

Are you talking about NHL Center Ice ??

Do you have to buy a subscription for Pre-Season???

Somebody please fill me in...
OilerFan
Last year pre-season games were free on NHL Center Ice Online (not TV). After that you had to pay for a subscription. No word yet if they plan to show pre-season games for free again this year.

not to mention billiards (trick shots and 9 ball), darts, strong man competitions, poker ohmy.gif ...poker. enough said.

I see that there are only about 20 games so far listed for TV coverage on the Flyers web site. You guys gets more than that don't you? or maybe the full TV coverage schedule is not posted yet?

The Oilers posted theirs today... we get all 82 regular season games on TV (one way or another) AND this year we get 2 of the 7 pre-season games televised.

All regular season games are televised. They are split between three channels (not including national broadcasts), so it takes some time to put it together usually. They haven't released any TV schedule as far as I know. Preseason games are rarely televised.
OilerFan
Was just curious but obviously, unlike the Canadian networks that do local games, they have not yet announced their schedules. We already have our "full" TV coverage schedule here.
FlyersGirl
Last year we had 1 or 2 pre-season games shown on tv. I remember we had the one vs Ottawa in London with the crappy Knights announcers and maybe one other game televised.

Usually they give us like 2. The one Nina mentioned and then always our home preseason game against North Jersey
FlyersGirl
We need a petition for online streaming of the games.
